A shot of the falls in winter, in color. Very easy to get to from Seattle and well worth the 30 minute drive. This is a short and easy walk from the lower parking lot on a beautifully maintained boardwalk. Snoqualmie Falls is actually taller than Niagara Falls, although obviously not as wide. It is around 269' tall while Niagara comes in at around 168'. Snoqualmie is the English pronunciation of “sah-KOH-koh” or “Sdob-dwahibbluh,” a Salish word meaning moon. As a spiritual place, it gave birth to many legends. One tells of “S’Beow” (the beaver), who climbed into the sky to bring trees and fire down to earth. The Native Americans who roamed the valley were known as people of the moon.
